Peace In Schools Annual 2017 Gala

The Evergreen in Portland was the venue for an amazing annual gala for the purpose of supporting mindfulness education for local teens in public high schools. Peace In Schools is a one-of-a kind local nonprofit started by Caverly Morgan (Executive Director) at Wilson High School. The program is now in 7 of 10 high schools in Portland and it continues to grow.

Thank you you to everyone who made the auction a huge success! Some came as far away as Virginia and California, bringing with them their energy and pocketbooks in order to help propel this event to new heights. Auctions For Good couldn't be more proud to have been a part of it all. Looking forward to building upon this success in the coming years.

East Portland Chamber Event

I had the opportunity to host one of our regular morning meetings on August 16th at the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church, and talk about benefit auctions.  It was a great meeting of mostly regular chamber members with a few newcomers, too. Tabor Space, the nonprofit with an office in the church helped organize the meeting and provided the room.

We had about 17 people in attendance and many good questions about how benefit auctions work. Of particular interest was how and when to conduct the all-important special appeal or paddle raise during a fundraising auction.  Some said they've seen it done with success at the end of the night while others said it seems to be conducted somewhere in the middle of the live auction.  Both approaches can and do work. I'm partial to doing the appeal approximately one third to one half the way into a live auction.  The arguments for doing it earlier are varied and include, because more people will be in their seats and still actively paying attention rather than thinking about heading home, or thinking about their baby sitter.

Additionally, the later it gets, the more tired some become and the last thing an auctioneer or event planner wants is for people to leave too soon, before they've had a chance to show their support for a school or nonprofit.  Being aware of the best place to conduct the appeal can have a huge impact at your annual gala or one-time fundraising event. Discuss in detail with your auctioneer and auction committee where best to do this if you want to maximize your efforts.

Thank you to the Hawthorne Fred Meyer for donating a $50 gift card as a give-away at this gathering!  Also, a big thanks to QFC and Starbucks at 55th and Burnside for donating coffee for our attendees. Looking forward to more great Chamber meetings this year.

If you are interested in having Auctions For Good give a presentation about benefit auctions at your church, school, nonprofit or community group, just contact us and we would be happy to talk with you.

Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church fundraiser, November 18, 2017!

I'm looking forward to helping the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church, a neighborhood church, 125 years old this year, keep its building in shape.  With over a million dollars in repairs and upgrades needed in the next 5-10 years, the first of more fundraisers to come will be held later this year on November 18th at the church.  Click on this link to read an article from the SE Examiner newspaper.

As the article states, the church also houses a hugely popular pilot nonprofit, TaborSpace.  This organization functions as a community hub, offering a coffee shop with a barista training program, as well as numerous classes, events, concerts, etc. that over 3000 people use/attend each week.  Check it and the church out if you live in the area.

It's been a pleasure being a new member of this fundraising committee and helping be a part of the success of the effort to improve the church building.

Maplewood Foundation "Back to the 80's 6th Annual Auction Gala"

Wow! Did everyone have a great time at this auction on April 29th or what!  It's rare when so many guests arrive at a themed fundraising event with the majority in costume.  Maplewood Elementary parents, family and friends did not disappoint and the energy and excitement of stepping back into the 80's propelled this event to new fundraising heights.  Over $61,000 was raised on this Saturday evening at the Multnomah Arts Center, with funds to be used for keeping all of the elementary school's Educational Assistants (EA's) on staff.

Along with very successful live and silent auctions and various games, the Paddle Raise raised $19,500, another record for the foundation.  Auctions For Good was so honored to be a part of this event and we look forward to next year at the same location.  Let's build upon this success have some fun again next year.

Thank you Ron Jones (Emcee) aka Rowdy Roddy Piper (that's not Ron Jones above, but another happy guest), kilt and all, for helping make the event run smoothly.  Thanks, too to Michelle Williams, Auction Chair Person and her entire volunteer crew for all they did to put on a great party!! You guys rock!

Had a great time Saturday night at the Northwest Indian College auction in Anacortes, WA! $156,000 was raised for student scholarships and the creation of a health and wellness center on campus. To add to the fun, my brother Mike joined me from Utah. Thanks Mike for your valuable insight and company!!
Award winning Native American musician Keith Secola provided the entertainment and Temryss Lane and Swil Kanim shared MC duties. What a fantastic evening of fundraising.

Rieke Elementary School

Rieke Elementary in Southwest Portland was the recipient of funds raised at the lively annual benefit auction held at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center last Saturday. Local businessman Mike Roach, Co-Owner of Paloma Clothing in Hillsdale, served as the MC for the evening. He did an awesome job and was a pleasure to work with. Thank you to all the guests and the community center for a wonderful and successful evening of fundraising!

Double Header

We had a fantastic time of auction fundraising this past weekend! Friday night at the Southwest Baptist Hills Church, we partnered with volunteers from the Cor Deo Christian Academy to welcome over 200 guests. What a generous group of people to help out and a tightly knit school with awesome students!! Thank you for choosing Auctions For Good as your auction company!

Saturday night was the 24th annual gala benefit for Multnomah Play School at the Oaks Park Pavilion. It was our 6th year working with MPS, and we couldn't have been happier being a part of helping raise over $60,000! Looking forward to seeing you all again next year!

Arleta Elementary School

Had a great time last night at the Arleta Elementary School auction in SE Portland! A school not far from our house, this was the 2nd year Auctions For Good had the opportunity to serve as Arleta's auction company and we had a blast. Among other areas of the school supported, much of the money raised went to music education and specifically for the purchase of instruments such as Xylophones for the kids.

"All You Need Is Love", the theme for the evening rang true throughout the night at the VFW. The Dessert Dash, Wine Pull, silent and live auctions and raffles all contributed to the success for Arleta. Thanks everyone for coming out and for the teachers in attendance, as well! Looking forward to working with you all again.

Blue Butterfly Campaign

So happy to have worked with my mentor and long time friend and auctioneer Steve Talbot, along with Russ Albertson and Valerie Joachim at the Blue Party on Oct. 15th at Castaway in Portland! Steve worked masterfully as auctioneer on this night and pocketbooks opened up.  The Blue Butterfly Campaign was initiated by Max’s Blue Butterfly, a Portland non-profit organization created to raise money for research to find a cure for childhood Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Leukemia is tragically now the leading cause of death among children and is shockingly under-funded. The Blue Butterfly Campaign is designed to change that! Great job Steve and thanks for the opportunity!
